Finally...back online

Wow, the last few weeks have went by quickly. We have been working on so many projects, with our Science Fair Projects to our Dress Up in Words this past Friday. The Science Fair Projects were due last week and they were great, congrats to those Top 5 who will represent us at the County Science Expo later in the year. Also we have wrapped up our Native Americans unit and our totem poles were amazing. Finally this Friday, our annual Dress Up in Words adjective costumes were AWESOME!! The shirts, hats and necklaces turned out great. We had three that stood out and Devin, Spencer and Caid gave us the whole package. They made us laugh all day with the sounds coming from Caid, Devin's moves and Spencer's "Steve Urkel" impressions. We all had a fun time Friday. Thanks also to Mrs. Gold (grouchy), Ms. Hoch (lucky), Mrs. Peterson (angelic) and to those parents who donated breakfast items or their time to help us during Exploration Alley. We had a blast!! Texting and Snack Chips..What could be better?

This week we have been busy. First Monday was picture day and everyone looked great. Then we moved on to our class work and that included adjectives. The class was able to text in adjectives using our Activexpressions to describe various photos. The photos ranged from a beautiful and calming beach to a cute, scary and amazing aye-aye. They were super excited to be able to use the Expressions to send in their adjectives. I also printed them and they are displayed around the room. On Friday in Exploration Alley, Mrs. Peterson came up with another cool activity and this one involved snack chips. What could be better than that?? The classes were divided into groups and they were given a variety of snack chips. They were to use the physical properties (one of our Einstein words) to come up with 4 categories that would help to classify the snack chips. Once the groups were done classifying they were to then pick two of the snack chips and create a double bubble (comparing/contrasting) and write a written response either explaining the similarities or differences or a combination of both. The posters they created will be on display in the hallway next week.
*As we were wrapping up the lesson, Cole and Xavier made an observation about their snack chips. They said that the pretzels must be the lowest in fat because they have not left any grease on the napkin and the cheese puffs were the highest in fat because of the grease the soaked into the napkin. We thought that was a great inference based on what they saw. Check out the photo below and see what they were observing.
